It is a big lamp

The lamp arrived cloudy and with a dent in the base. I thought about sending it back but due to the size and weight I decided against it. The lamp did clear up a bit and you can see about half of the movement that is going on in there. Also keep in mind that there are better color combination's than green and blue.
Great investment for retro novelty item

It's a pricey novelty item, but it looks great in a bay window or on a coffee table! I love it and would recommend this grande lava lamp to anyone. It's not "cheap" looking like the smaller kind --- it really makes a mod statement !!

I had considered getting the black wax lava lamp, but decided that the colored ones (especially purple and yellow) would make more sense considering that light is a major factor because it complements the translucency of the wax & fluid.

The wax transitions from yellow, to orange, to red ---- therefore, I like the yellow wax the best. The fluid goes from a dark purple when not lit up to a bright purple when lit ---- so I think the combination of yellow wax and purple fluid is the most dynamic.
Patience required

I bought two of these lamps awhile back from a different site. I have a purple liquid with yellow wax one and a clear liquid with black wax one. As many have stated, these take awhile to warm up and get going. Mine take a few hours to get fully liquefied and moving. Their speed (or lack thereof) as well as warm-up time is due mostly in part of their large size. Don't expect them to perform as speedily as their smaller counterparts.
Many have stated that theirs are cloudy. Mine were the same, but the seller I bought these from instructed me that frequent usage reduces the cloudiness. This seems to be the case. Granted, they will likely never be 100% clear, but the cloudiness is reduced a bit down to acceptable amounts.
Another thing to mention is that these things get hot. They use halogen bulbs to heat them, and can raise the temperature around them quite a bit. Make sure you keep flammable materials away from them.

Overall, I'm satisfied with these lamps. They do require patience as they do take awhile to warm up and get going, and several uses are required to reduce cloudiness. But if you're patient enough with these lamps, they will provide a nice warm, entertaining glow.
GROOVY!!

I love the enormity of the lamp. Nothing is groovier than a lava lamp, and this one certainly is groovy!! My only complaint, however, is that I thought the water would be a little bit clearer. I meticulously followed the directions, unpacked it carefully, didn't shake it, etc. After many runs, the water still hasn't become any clearer, as was stated in the directions. I now have owned it for about a month. Interestingly enough, a friend with an identical lamp had more luck in this arena--his was somewhat clearer right out of the box. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE it very much and feel I got a lot of lamp for my buck, just wish it was a LITTLE bit clearer. Otherwise, I sit mesmerized time after time, watching the globules change into many shapes over and over again.

That's my review...LAVA LOVER GIRL

I was very disappointed with this lamp, couldn't see the lava flowing through, and it took 5 hours to even get warmed up and when it did, it was just little bubbles on the top.I don't think it had anything to do with the color either, cheap lava! But so far as returning it, I received my refund within 3 weeks, so I was happy about that.Just don't make Lava lamps like they you too.

I was all excited when i found this product online. It was exactly what my boyfriend was looking for so I ordered one. It came later then they had originally said it would and when we opened the box and took it out it was not black and clear like it said it was supposed to be...it was black and milk. we did some research and found out that we were not the only people to have this problem and that running it for 6 days like it said on the papers that came with it wouldn't work. people were saying they ran theirs for a year and it was still cloudy. we tried running ours for a few days and saw no improvement. we decided to ship it back and have another one sent to us hoping it was just a bad one and that the next one would be fine. they told us they shipped it the day we called them but we didn't get it for another 2 weeks. to our great disappointment this one was also cloudy, i mean its so bad you can't even see the black lava moving in it. we ended up retuning it and they said they will return all my money (but im yet to see that yet) and we wasted a month of our time ....

trust me save your time and money and DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

First, the bad news. After three tries, I still have not received a lamp in good condition. The good news is that Amazon was fine with processing returns and shipping replacements.

Now the full story; Their shipping department can't read and/or doesn't care. Despite it being labeled as fragile glass and "this side up", the product box was loosely placed in a much larger box, with not nearly enough crumpled paper packing to keep it from sliding around. This box, initially a J4 but the next two were Q0s, have external "this side up arrows"... indicating the long and wide side of the box. This put the actual product inside on it's side. What arrived all three times was not a black/clear lava lamp. What arrived was a black/gray/milk slushie. With the first lamp I naively followed instructions on running it for a few hours to bring the wax together, letting it cool, then running it for 8 hours. The black wax reformed but the fluid remained a murky, opaque white. I didn't even bother fully unpacking the other two, as the fluid looked the same as the first one. So, I've given up. Good: No hassle from customer service. Bad: I don't have the lamp I wanted. Worse: They're probably still screwing this up for other people.

If you order one of these, get someone on the phone FIRST and be *very specific* about the shipping instructions.
