Don't Buy This!

I bought this lamp for decorating my store, and it's a complete disapointment.
No way does the lamp light all the way up as shown in the pictures of this website. It lights up to probably 15%, not even 25% of the whole 40" tube. It's got a light changing light bulb and I don't know if the engineers had no creativity, but with some adjustments they could've made the whole thing light up.
It just doesn't look or do what it says, don't waste your money. Also, it's expensive for anything it supposively does. |
Fun, but has some flaws

I feel obligated to post a review for this product, since the only other one I could find online happens to be on this page, and it's wholly unhelpful. Anyway, I'd been eying this lamp for a while, since I've been looking for a fun, modern mood lamp for my living room (in a guy's college apartment, for the record.) I finally sucked it up and ordered it even though I had no idea what to expect, and I have a mixed opinion of the thing. I wound up paying 45 dollars once shipping was totaled in, and that's probably a bit too pricey for what you get here. The lamp components are of mediocre quality, but it looks decent once you put it together. We're obviously not talking about a fantastic lamp here, but it's not a piece of junk either. The LED effects are very cool in a dark room. My biggest complaint is simply the modes of lighting. No matter how hard I searched before I bought it, I simply couldn't find anywhere that told me what exactly the lamp did, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The lamp appears to have three modes: strobe (a bit too intense for my taste) and two types of fading in-and-out. The difference between the two is very hard to detect - it has something to do with the fading pattern or something, but who knows. I was really hoping that there would be color-specific modes, where I could select a blue or red or orange mode, but instead, the lamp just alternates between all of the colors. That's what I would call the lamp's biggest flaw - although that's less the fault of the lamp, and more the fault of a poor product description. So keep that in mind when buying. It's a fun lamp, but if you're looking for a color-specific mood lamp then look elsewhere. I was kind of hoping I could keep it on orange or red to go with my UT-colored living room theme - hook 'em! - but it didn't work out that way. I'm sure you could go and buy new LEDs in the color you want and mod the thing, but I'm not bothered enough to do it.
The bottom line:
- Mediocre quality, but you get what you pay for. Not a fault of the lamp - shipping costs just push it over into "I'm not sure it was worth that much" territory.
- Limited modes - color fading and strobe light, only one of which will wind up being used by owners over the age of 14.
- Fun lamp, especially with the lights off, but not a serious mood lamp. |

| Nice lighting effects. Reminds me of my younger years in the 70's. Bought for my 22 year old son... he loves it... |
